Harold E. Egge, 87, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Harold E. Egge, age 87, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Harold died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home in Albert Lea.

Harold E. Egge was born April 6, 1916, to Hans L. and Frances (Dahlen) Egge in Albert Lea. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church and confirmed at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Harold attended school in District #25 at Lerdal. In his teenage years, he spent time with the Alfred Kvenvold family and also worked for Raymond Jerdee. Harold then spent three years building silos in Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 until 1945 stationed in England, France, and Belgium. Harold was a member of the 449th Air Service Group and received a medal for driving heavy equipment for over 60,000 miles without an accident. He was also given a unit citation and a certificate of merit award which read in part, “in recognition of conspicuously and outstanding performance of military duty from 1 September 1942 to 15 May 1945.”

On March 3, 1956, Harold was united in marriage to Elsie Mae Heskett at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He worked for the city of Albert Lea in the Street and Landfill Departments as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years before retiring.

Harold was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #56 and a former member of the Building and Trades Union. He enjoyed fishing, watching golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie; children: Lowell, Dwaine and wife Beth, and Ron and wife Dawn, all of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Brianna, Lauren, Lyndsey, and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; sister, Gretchen Dahlen; brothers: Leonard and John; brother-in-law, Gene Dahlen; and sister-in-law, Eunice Egge.

Memorials are preferred to the Building and Remodeling Fund at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
