Millard R. Hamersly, 84, Glenville

Memorial services for Millard R. Hamersly, age 84, of Glenville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Haun will officiate. Interment will be in Stateline Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organization. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.

Millard died Friday, June 13, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Millard Royse Hamersly was born June 21, 1918, to Grover Cleveland and Mary Louise (Buchanan) Hamersly in Sheffield, Iowa. He attended schools in Northwood. In 1932, Millard moved to Minnesota where he farmed for many years. He served in the United States Army during World War II from June 1941 to December 1945. Millard was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gordonsville and Albert Lea. He enjoyed listening to classical music and spent many hours doing volunteer work at St. John’s and Good Samaritan Retirement Homes. He had been a member of the American Legion since 1946 and was also in the REACT Club.

Survivors include his brother, Winston and wife Marjory Hamersly; nephew, James B. and wife Peggy Hamersly; niece, Carla and husband Leland Johnson; and several grandnieces and nephews.

Millard was preceded in death by his parents.
