Cora Kvale, 87, formerly of Manchester

Cora Kvale died Friday, July 18, 2003.

Cora Evelyn Stadheim Kvale was the wife of Gilbert Kvale, formerly of Manchester, and resident of Forest City, Iowa, since 1991.

Cora Kvale was born Oct. 31, 1915, to Ole and Redikka Stadheim. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. Cora was raised on their farm in Bancroft Township, Freeborn County, along with her two brothers and one sister. As a young girl she went to grade school in District No. 58. Cora attended Mankato Business School following her high school graduation in 1933. She married Gilbert Kvale in 1940. She became a member of First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea following her marriage. Gilbert and Cora lived in Manchester for many years. Cora had many dear friends and neighbors there and helped with the Manchester 4-H groups while her boys were active. She worked for the Albert Lea Credit Bureau, the Central Offices of Albert Lea High School and then for the Manchester Insurance Agency before she retired 1977. Gilbert and Cora celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary June 1990. Following Gilbert’s death in 1991, Cora moved to Forest City, Iowa. She was an associate member of Immanuel Lutheran church of Forest City and an active member of the Mary Circle for several years. During her last years she lived in Town Square Apartments, Forest City.

Cora Kvale is survived by brother, Orvin Stadheim of Ellendale; sister, Helen (LB) Boyd of Alexandria, Va.; and three sons and their families: Ronald and Donna Kvale of Forest City, Iowa, and their children: Shellie and Kevin McDermott, Anthony, Katelyn and Erin of Britt, Iowa; Bryon Kvale of Forest City, Iowa; Heidi and Capt. Daniel VanEvery of Fort Lee, Va.; and Melissa and Matthew Kerr of Carrboro, N.C.; Dale and Sonja Kvale of Bella Vista, Ark., and their children: Janna and Kevin Ballard; Zachary, Emma, Jennessa and Noah of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; Dirk and Heather Kvale, and Benjamin and Samuel of Litchfield, Minn.; and Thomas and Barbara Kvale of Toledo, Ohio, and their children: John Kvale of Aspen, Colo.,

and David and Peter of Toledo, Ohio. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Kvale; parents: Ole and Redikka Stadheim; brother, Alfred Stadheim; sister-in-law, Sylvia Stadheim; special aunt and uncle: George and Selma Stadheim; and many friends.

Funeral services for Cora Kvale will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Albert Lea. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and a hour before the service at the church.
