BLOOMING PRAIRIE &045; It looked like the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team might get out of Blooming Prairie early.

Instead, the visitors had to stay late. And it made for a long ride home.

Glenville-Emmons bolted to a 5-0 lead after three innings but wound up losing 7-6 in eight innings at Blooming Prairie Tuesday night.

&uot;We took a 5-0 lead and just sat on it,&uot; said G-E coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;We had runners on in a number of innings but just couldn’t get the key hits. It seemed like in the late innings their bats really came alive and ours went south.&uot;

Mitch Meier and Michael Greibrok both had a big night at the plate as G-E totaled 12 hits. Meier was 4-for-4, and Greibrok was 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Matt Learn had a home run and two RBIs while scoring twice; Wade Flattum tripled and drove in two runs. Isaiah Parry and Devan Kaasa had G-E’s other hits.

Greibrok took the pitching loss in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. He had two walks and no strikeouts.

Meier started and pitched the first seven innings, giving up five earned runs on 11 hits, striking out five and walking four.

The loss dropped Glenville-Emmons’ record to 4-8 for the summer. G-E plays tonight at 7 p.m. at New Richland.
