LaVonne L. Stieler, 47, Albert Lea

Funeral services for LaVonne L. Stieler, age 47, of Albert Lea, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. from Hayward Lutheran Church. The Revs. John Malm and John Holt will officiate. Burial will be at Shady Oaks Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

LaVonne died on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester due to injuries sustained from a fall.

LaVonne L. Stieler was born on Dec. 14, 1955 in Albert Lea, the daughter of James and Nancy (Black) Skaar.

She grew up on a dairy farm in rural Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School. She continued her education at Austin Community College where she received a A.S. degree in elementary education and Mankato State University where she received her B.S. degree in dietetics. LaVonne then received a master’s degree in public health nutrition from the University of Minnesota.

On April 23, 1977, she was united in marriage to Paul Stieler at Hayward Lutheran Church.

LaVonne has worked at Albert Lea Medical Center as a Licensed Nutritionist for 14 years. She enjoyed boating and was a first mate on the Pelican Breeze, scuba diving, gardening and serving as 4-H food project leader and a Boy Scouts co-scoutmaster. Most of all she enjoyed helping others and spending time with her family and friends.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Beta Sigma Phi.

Survivors include her husband, Paul of Albert Lea; sons: Daniel and David; parents: James and Nancy Skaar of Albert Lea; sisters: Dawn and husband Lowell Nelson of Oakland, Cherry and husband Kevin Buttles of Seymour, Wis., Diane and husband Bruce Stundahl of Austin, Sue and husband Craig Stundahl of Champaign, Ill., Mary and husband Chris Elleby of Hayward, and Deb and husband David Janson of Champaign, Ill.; grandmother, Genevieve Olson of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her grandfather, Carlyle Skaar; grandparents: Nellie and Harry Black; niece, Jaclyn Nelson; and nephew, Keith Stundahl.
