Irene E. Johnson, 95, Forest City, Iowa

Funeral services for Irene E. Johnson will be on Friday, Sept. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Irene died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center from complications of cancer.

Irene was born Sept. 27, 1907, near Milnor, N.D., to Ingval and Emma (Jorgenson) Hanna. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

On Feb. 5, 1927, she was married to Telford Johnson in Forest City, Iowa. Irene and Telford were the parents of three sons: Francis, DeWayne and John.

Irene enjoyed her family, sports, crafts, cards and bingo at the Forest City and Leland Senior Centers. She made donuts and lefse for local stores and Waldorf College.

Survivors include her sons: Francis and wife Marilyn of Albert Lea, and DeWayne and wife Donna of Forest City; five grandchildren: Dianna and husband Bob Benoy of Hudson, Wis., Dan Johnson and wife Jane of Albert Lea,

Lori and husband Jim Bakken of Fremont, Neb., Scott Johnson and wife Naomi Nowland of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Craig Johnson and wife Dawn of Forest City; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Hazel Laage and husband Ernest of Brooten, Minn.; stepbrother, Howard Elwood and wife Bernadien of Glenwood, Minn.; and stepsisters Eleanor Dorweiler and husband Joe of Glenwood, Myrtle Lack of Milnor, N.D., and Ethel Johnson of Milnor, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Telford, on March 21, 1984; an infant son, John Telford, on October 17, 1937; her parents and several step brothers and sisters.
