Jose T. DeLaCruz Sr., 85, Albert Lea

Resurrection liturgy for Jose T. DeLaCruz Sr. will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Thien Nguyen will officiate. Burial will be at the Hollandale Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organization. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m., with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Jose died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center.

Jose T. DeLaCruz Sr. was born on Nov. 26, 1917, in Eagle Pass, Texas, the son of Atilano and Antonia (DeHoyos) DeLaCruz. Jose attended and graduated from Eagle Pass High School on May 20, 1938. Jose served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and after his discharge he served his country in the U.S. Army. On July 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Hortencia Camacho in Eagle Pass, Texas. The couple moved to Hollandale in April of 1953. Jose worked for the Hollandale Marketing Association and after his retirement they moved to Albert Lea in 1994. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Geneva.

Survivors include his wife, Hortencia of Albert Lea; children: Rosa and husband Lorenzo Martinez of Albert Lea, Jose T. DeLaCruz Jr. of St. Paul, Olga and husband Jose Sosa of Asherton, Texas, Carmen and husband Walter John Jones of St. Paul, Raquel DeLaCruz of St. Paul, Becky DeLaCruz of St. Paul, Bertha and husband Ron VanEngelenburg of Albert Lea, and Arthur Michael and wife Kelly DeLaCruz of Exeter, R.I.; 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Albert and Armando; daughters: Adela and Antonia; four brothers: Nicholas, Atilano, Rafael and Rudolfo; and four sisters: Chavela Lopez, Maria Sanchez, Concha Juarez and Guadalupe Ancira.
