Sophie Miller of Albert Lea has been named to the Minnesota Olympic Development Squad for soccer.

Miller was named to the squad following a series of identification and training sessions held in Rochester, and a district select festival in Coon Rapids. Miller competed against hundreds of other players throughout the state, and only approximately 50 are selected for the program.

At the training sessions and festival players are evaluated by elite level coaches on a wide variety of abilities including ball skills, balance, technical speed, coachability, self-motivation, leadership, and strength.

Being selected to the program means Miller will have the opportunity to learn from the best coaches in the state and to possibly play throughout the U.S. against other top players.

Miller is the daughter of Jeff Miller and Sara Miller of Albert Lea. She was a member Albert Lea’s U-11 summer soccer team that finished second in the state tournament and Albert Lea’s U-13 fall team that lost to the eventual state champions in the fall state tournament.
