School suppers, other fund-raisers ahead for weekend

St. Theodore Parent School Association will hold its annual spaghetti supper fund-raiser from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in Marian Hall of St. Theodore Catholic Church.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under and are available at the door. There will also be a country store with baked goods and crafts available for purchase.

Following is a roundup of other events planned in the area this weekend:

Friday, Nov. 7

– Northbridge Mall will hold its holiday craft show from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. There will be a large selection of crafts and holiday decor. This is the mall’s last craft show before Christmas.

– Zion Lutheran Church, 924 Bridge Ave., will hold a salad luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $4 per person. Proceeds will fund mission projects.

– The Albert Lea Art Center, 224 S. Broadway Ave., features the quilts, wearable art and wall hangings of the Larson sisters, Sharon Morreim, Jan Prescher, Joyce Stenzel and Merle Stensrud. Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Admission is $1.

– Hollandale Christian School will hold its annual fall supper from 4-7 p.m. at the school. The menu includes turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, baked beans, baked apples, stuffing, cranberry sauce, Chinese cabbage salad and a large selection of desserts. A freewill offering will be received.

– Fountain Warehouse Liquor will host a wine-tasting event with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Freeborn County from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion, 142 North Broadway Ave. Cost is $10 per person, which includes over 60 different wines to taste, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Wine company representatives will also be on hand.

Saturday, Nov. 8

– The Albert Lea High School Choir is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts as a fund-raiser beginning at 7 a.m. at the Lakeside Cafe/Ben’s Floral parking lot.

This is the only Krispy Kreme sale for this group this year.

Doughnuts will sell for $7 per dozen. The Krispy Kremes will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

However, if anyone would like to reserve some doughnuts ahead of time, orders may be placed with any choir member or by calling Diane Heaney at 379-5386.

The choir members will deliver them to you that morning.

– Single mothers or needy families can get a free oil change, courtesy of Albert Lea Vineyard Church, 419 Adams Ave., from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. People should call 377-1412 for an appointment and bring their own oil filter.

– The Albert Lea Art Center, 224 S. Broadway Ave., features the quilts, wearable art and wall hangings of the Larson sisters, Sharon Morreim, Jan Prescher, Joyce Stenzel and Merle Stensrud. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is $1.

– Northbridge Mall will hold its holiday craft show from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

– Thorne Crest Retirement Center, 1201 Garfield Ave., will hold its holiday luncheon and bazaar from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

– The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department is holding a fish fry from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. The menu includes fish, mashed or baked potato, vegetable, cole slaw and coffee. Cost is $7 per person. Funds will be matched by the Freeborn County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

– A benefit for Charlie Mangskau will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight at the Albert Lea Union Center. Mangskau and his wife Monica were involved in a motorcycle accident in July. He suffered severe injuries, including a broken neck, back and ribs. He spent several days in the hospital and has had to make several trips to Rochester for treatment. A sloppy joe supper will be served from 5-7 p.m. A silent auction runs from 5-7:30 p.m. and a dance, featuring the music of Kat Blu, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight. Donations, in care of the Charlie Mangskau Benefit, may also be sent to the Trades and Labor Credit Union, 610 S. Broadway, Albert Lea. Matching funds will be provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Sunday, Nov. 9

– Northbridge Mall will hold its holiday craft show from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

– Volodymyr Koshuba, concert organist, will be presented in concert at 4 p.m. at the Albert Lea United Methodist Church, 702 Highway 69 S., as part of the Robert L. Myers Art Series. Admission is not charged; however a freewill offering will be received to help pay expenses.
