Denise Suzanne Petersen, 65, Mason City, Iowa

The funeral service for Denise Suzanne Petersen will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Alden. The Rev. Peter Soli will officiate. Burial will be in Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
Denise died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. She was 65 years old.
Denise was born in Albert Lea on Nov. 6, 193 8, the daughter of William and Melva (Spoon) Hanson. She attended Albert Lea High School.
On April 11, 1956, Denise was united in marriage with Richard Petersen at Salem
Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Denise was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and had taught Sunday School. She had lived in Albert Lea, Alden, Plymouth, Iowa and for the past 40 years in Manly, Iowa.
Denise had worked for Schweigert’s Food in Albert Lea for 44 years retiring in 2003. She had been a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, bird watching and spending time outside on her deck.
She was a very generous person and would put other peoples needs ahead of her own.
She was fond of spending time with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren.
Denise is survived by five children: Julie Ann E. (Jerry) Whitney of Mason City, Iowa, Carol Jean Mushero of Manhattan, Kan., Mark R. Petersen of Manly, Iowa, JoAnn K. Petersen of Mason City, Iowa, William H. Petersen and his fianc, Sandra Minnis of Mason City, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Shannon Osborne, and Jenifer Mushero of Manhattan, Kan., Richard, Manuel, Christi and Michael Hernandez of Mason City, Iowa, Johnny, Jordan and Courtney Petersen of Mason City, Iowa; three great grandchildren: Devon and Micayalah Osborne, Damien Hitchings of Manhattan, Kan.; mother-in-law, Vivian Cadwell of Albert Lea; three brothers-in-law: Ross (Frances) Petersen of Warren, Minn., Alan (Louise) Petersen of Austin, Keith (Janet) Register of Clarks Grove; one step sister, Joanne (Douglas) Bornstine of Renton, Wash.; two step brothers: Odin (Janice) Nelson of Kirkland, Wash., John (Gail) Nelson of Redmond, Wash.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melva and William Hanson; step mother, Emma Hanson; husband, Richard in 1997; daughter, Cindy Jo Petersen in 198 1; father-in-law, Hjalmar Petersen in 1958.
