Howard L. Towne, 89, Twin Lakes and Emmons

Funeral services for Howard L. Towne, age 89, formerly of Twin Lakes and Emmons, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at Bayview.

Howard died Tuesday, Jan. 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Howard Leon Towne was born Nov. 23, 1914, to Harry E. and Jessie N. (Penrod) Towne in Nunda Township. He attended District #76 school and was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County. Howard served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. His tour of duty included Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After his discharge, he farmed in the Twin Lakes area for many years. Howard was a member of Lunder Lutheran Church and the Emmons American Legion. He enjoyed golf, fishing & hunting, and sports.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters: Lauretta Gavle and Vern Peterson, both of Albert Lea, Earl and his wife Dorothy Towne of Emmons, Wally Towne of Hartley, Iowa, and Rubelle Towne of Baudette; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Glen, Marvin and Lloyd; sister, Violet Peterson; brothers-in-law: Don Peterson, Alton Gavle and Bob Peterson; and sister-in-law, Madonna Towne.
