The Celebration of Life for Robert

M. Evenson, of 702 W. Ninth St., Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.

Robert died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea at the age of 80.

He was born on June 11, 1923, in Albert Lea, the son of Melvin and Stella (Nelson) Evenson. He attended Albert Lea Schools.

He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served from April of 1943 until February of 1946, spending time in North Africa and India.

As a young man he had worked several jobs including repairing windmills, moving houses, reading water meters, and driving a cream route.

On Nov. 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margery Ann Kilbride at the First Lutheran Church. As a wedding gift they received an acre of land south of town on which they built their home. Robert later worked for Edwards Manufacturing from which he retired after 33 years.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he had been baptized, confirmed and married. He enjoyed helping at the church for Holidays Ahead. He was a member of the VFW, and volunteered for the Freeborn County Historical Museum and the Albert Lea Ostomy Group.

Robert was skillful at working with his hands, he enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing.

He entered Good Samaritan Center in 2000 due to his failing health.

He is survived by his wife Margery; five children: Linda Evenson of Albert Lea, Lori and her husband Lyle Frerichs of Lino Lakes, Minn., Kathy and her husband John Bengtson of Andover, Minn., Brian Evenson

and his wife Sue Brockman of Northfield, and Brad Evenson of Mountain Iron, Minn., seven grandchildren: Caleb and Emily Frerichs of Lino Lakes, Dmitry, Anthony and Sasha Bengtson of Andover, and Zachary and Elizabeth Evenson of Northfield; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Clifford, Ellsworth and Richard Evenson; sister, Gladys Gulbrandson; and two nieces: Peggy Schulz and Bev Gulbrandson.

Robert had a great love and devotion for his family, and he will be sadly missed.
