Weekend Planner: Plenty of food and art top weekend events

The Albert Lea Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual soup and pie supper from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services banquet hall. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Chicken noodle, wild rice and ham and bean soup, as well as chili and oyster stew will be featured. A variety of pies will also be served.

Proceeds go toward the purchase of new firefighter safety and rescue equipment. Tickets are available at the door.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend:

Friday, Feb. 20

€ The American Red Cross will hold a bloodmobile at Northbridge Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northbridge Mall near Herberger’s.

€ The Albert Lea Art Center features the work of Rockford, Iowa, artist Tracy Ingham. Gallery hours are from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray art center expenses.

Saturday, Feb. 21

€ Thorne Crest Retirement Center will hold a soup and chili feed from 3 to 6 p.m. in the apartment dining room. Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. This is a fund-raiser for equipment and furnishings at Thorne Crest and Thorne Crest South.

€ The Glenville-Emmons Athletic Boosters will hold a pork chop supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. Cost is $8 per person.

Sunday, Feb. 22

€ The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis Club will hold an all-you-can-eat Dad’s Belgian Waffles breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union Center. Cost is $5 per person, and kids under 5 eat free. Tickets are available from any Noon Kiwanis member or at the door. Carryouts are available. Proceeds benefit projects for local youths.
