Gladys Rebecca Barton, age 94, of Austin, died at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home Wednesday morning, March 17, 2004.

She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Freeborn County to Michael J. and Ida (Skamfer) Moen. Gladys attended country school near her home through eighth grade. After completing her education, she worked as a nanny for area families and married Floyd C. Barton. She was an employee of Hormel Foods Corp. for over 30 years. They enjoyed fishing at a summer home in Baudette after retirement. After Floyd’s death Oct. 1, 1989, Gladys continued to live at St. Mark’s Apartments until moving in with her niece, Lois Mikkelson, and later moved to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Survivors include her sister, Ruth Nelson of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Iva Hagland of Crosby; brother-in-law, Art Fann of Austin; special niece, Lois (Larry) Mikkelson of Austin; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; sisters: MaeEtta Cook and Serene Fann; and brother, John Moen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 19, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, Austin, with The Rev. Greg Mannel officiating. Interment is at Trondjem Lutheran Cemetery at Oakland. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Today at the Worlein Funeral, Home and one hour before the service.
