Arthur C. Stiehl, 90, Northwood, Iowa

Funeral services for Arthur C. Stiehl, age 90, of Northwood, Iowa, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. LaDonna Ekern will officiate. Interment will be in the Hayward Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the area Veteran’s organizations. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview, and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.

Arthur died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood surrounded by his three daughters and his son-in-law, Lloyd.

Arthur Chris Stiehl was born August 8, 1913, to Victor and Anna (Bangert) Stiehl in Pickerel Lake Township.

During World War II, he served in the South Pacific under General MacArthur. On Nov. 9, 1946, Arthur was united in marriage to Hazel R. (Sickels) Wulf at the First Lutheran Parsonage in Albert Lea.

He was a resident of the Hayward area most of his life. Arthur was employed at Weyerhaeuser for 22 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church, VFW, and Glenville American Legion. Arthur enjoyed carpentry and fixing things.

Survivors include his daughters: Barbara and her husband Robert Miller of Albert Lea, Arvis and her husband Lloyd Miller of Glenville, and Diane Nesset of Northwood; son, Duane and his wife Debbie Stiehl of Troy, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; granddaughter, Jan Jensen; grandson, Danny Miller; sisters: Leona Buenneke, Irene Hagen, Alma Bowen, and Gladys Bredeson; brother, Vern Stiehl; niece, Beverly Stanley; and nephew, Allen Stiehl.
