Albert Lea VFW wins at Emmons

EMMONS &045; The competition was up a notch for the Albert Lea VFW baseball team Monday night.

The locals adjusted just fine.

Traveling to Emmons to face the Glenville-Emmons American Legion team &045; which includes players up to three years older than the VFW level &045; Post 447 came home with a 6-2 victory.

David Hird, Ben Berhow and Matt Vietze all had two hits apiece for Albert Lea, with one each from Ben Kelly, Jesse Manuel and a double by Besco.

Josh Jordahl went the distance on the mound for the visitors. He finished with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Nathan Cooper was 2-for-3 for Glenville-Emmons. Garrett Davis was 1-for-3, a two-run home run. Josh Kluender and Michael Greibrok each contributed one hit.

Devin Kaasa started on the mound the took the loss, allowing four earned runs in six innings. He fanned five and walked four. Justin Flattum pitched the seventh.

&uot;We’re just not hitting the ball right now,&uot; said Glenville-Emmons coach Louie Toulouse, whose squad fell to 0-2. &uot;We have nine hits in two games. We get runners in scoring position and just don’t get any hits to drive them in.&uot;

G-E plays tonight at 7 against Blooming Prairie at Emmons.
