Alfred Emery Youngberg, 97, New Richland

The funeral service for Alfred Emery Youngberg will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Vista Evangelical Covenant Church. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Burial will be in Vista Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church, Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland is in charge of the arrangements.

Alfred Youngberg, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at New Richland Care Center where he had been a resident since March 1998.

Alfred was born on Dec. 30,1906, in rural New Richland, the son of Carl 0.

and Mina (Hanson) Youngberg. He attended a rural school through eighth grade. He also attended the University Agricultural Farm School in Minneapolis until the death of his father, at which time he returned to operate the family farm in 1927.

On June 23, 1934, he married Jeanette Lageson in Ellendale. Jeanette preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2001. They had operated and lived on the farm where Alfred was born until 1990. Alfred was a member of the Vista Covenant Church, New Richland. He served on various church boards, was chairman of the building committee for the church, and was a member of the Vista Cemetery Board. Alfred also was a member of the District 23 school board, the New Richland-Hartland Board of Education, and served on the advisory board for the consolidation of rural schools. For several years Alfred was an adult leader for the Vista Busy Bees 4-H Club. Alfred was also an avid horseshoe player and bowler. He participated in local bowling and horseshoe leagues and entered several horseshoe tournaments, winning several trophies. Alfred also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Alvin and Faith Youngberg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Merton and Jeanne Youngberg of Manistee, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Lucille Youngberg of Waseca; eight grandchildren: Bryan and Alison Youngberg, Scott and Mary Jo Youngberg, Kirk and Bridgette Youngberg, Kent and Lisa Youngberg, Corey and Katie Youngberg, Lisa and Rob Creeth, David and Lisa Kallen-Youngberg, and Kari Youngberg; and 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Youngberg of Minneapolis; brother, Kenneth Youngberg of Maple Valley, Wash.; two sisters-in-law: Doris Youngberg of Minneapolis, and Nina Youngberg of Waseca; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

In addition to his wife, Jeanette; he was preceded in death by his son, Karl; his parents; a sister, Mildred; and three brothers: Joe, Melford and Glenn.
