NORTHWOOD, Iowa &045; For two quarters, it was everything an arch-rivalry should be.

Northwood-Kensett changed all that in the second half.

The Vikings broke open a close game with two third-period touchdowns and another early in the fourth on their way to a 41-14 non-district football victory over Lake Mills at Northwood Friday night.

The Vikings, again expecting to contend for a state playoff berth, improved to 2-0 while the rebuilding Bulldogs, winless last year, dropped to 0-2.

A 32-yard touchdown run by Jake Madsen and the first of five PAT kicks by Brad Haberman put N-K up 7-0 with 6:06 left in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs answered with a 94-yard scoring run by Justin Kester.

Tom Fierova’s eight-yard touchdown run put N-K on top 14-7 at halftime.

Ben Schipull broke loose on a 47-yard scoring scamper in the third quarter and Fierova scored from 6 yards out later in the period. The Vikings made it 35-7 as Eric Parker scored from 14 yards out early in the fourth.

Schipull finished with 105 yards on nine carries, Fierova 100 on 20 attempts. Parker connected on two of four passes for 71 yards.

Kester rolled up 191 yards on 15 carries while Norris was 7-for-21 passing for 106 yards.

Defensively, Kelvin Hendrickson led the Vikings with 16 tackles. Kyle Waller had 11.

The leading tacklers for Lake Mills were Jerod Osheim with 11, Peter Brekken 10 and Jason Tritch 10.

The Vikings travel to Riceville this Friday while the Bulldogs host Rockford.
