ROCHESTER &045; Officially, the Albert Lea High School girls’ tennis team lost 7-0 at Rochester Century Thursday.

But none of the Tigers’ starters played.

With two trips to Rochester already this week and another there Saturday for the Big Nine tournament, coach Sean Gillam rested the regulars and filled in the lineup with junior varsity players.

&uot;I think some of the girls were a little nervous, but it was a fun night,&uot; said Gillam. &uot;I think we played extremely well. For a group of girls to step in and play four or five spots above their position and come off with a positive attitude, it’s all you can ask. We outhustled and outthought our opponents. Our strokes just let us down.&uot;

The scores at singles: No. 1, Sarah Jensen 6-0, 6-0; No. 2, Cori Madson 6-0, 6-0; No. 3, Holly Bohlen 6-0, 6-0; No. 4, Karina Timmerman 6-0, 6-0.

&uot;I know of at least seven games where we were a point away from winning,&uot; said Gillam. &uot;They all played pretty well.&uot;

The doubles scores: No. 1, Antonia Kolas and Danielle Merfeld 6-0, 6-1; No. 2, Chelsea Hill and Naomi Holt, 6-1, 6-0; No. 3, Alicia Heilmann and Ellen Helgerson 6-2, 6-0.

Gillam said he expects the Tigers to be on the road for the opening round of the Section 2AA

team tournament Tuesday, probably at Hutchinson, Marshall or Waseca.
