Sarah F. Gardner, 95, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Sarah F. Gardner, of Geneva, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newry Township. The Rev. Thien Nguyen will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sarah died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.

She was 95 years of age.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1908, in Ellendale, the daughter of Robert and Frances

(Pechacek) Smith.

Sarah graduated from Owatonna High School and then lived in South St. Paul

and worked for the Armour Meat Packing Company.

On April 24, 1929, she married Earl J. Gardner. In 1961, they began farming near Blooming Prairie. In 1976, they retired and moved into Geneva, where Sarah had lived until a month ago when due to failing health she became a resident of Good Samaritan Center.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newry.

Sarah loved to crochet and had made many lap robes for nursing home residents, and hundreds of afghans that had been donated and raffled for various community functions. She also enjoyed playing cards.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Reta Harris of Palatka, Fla.; her brother, Lloyd Smith of Owatonna, five grandchildren: Holly Harris of

Palatka, Fla., Lyn Ann and her husband Roger Stepaniak of Shoreview, Minn., James Harris and his wife Sharon of Palatka, Fla., Michael Harris and his wife Sheila of San Mateo, Fla., and Dawn and her husband Wayne Westbrook of Andover, Minn.; great-grandchildren: Karie, Ryan, Sarah, Matthew, Kristin, Brianne, Megan, Caitlin, Jenna, Tyler and Carly; one great-great-grandson, Sean; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; her daughter, Donna Murphy; three sisters: Esther, Mildred and Anna; and a brother, Russell.
