Lowell Edward Carlsen, age 63, of Madrid, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at United Methodist Church in Slater, Iowa,

with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Burial was in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.

Lowell was born June 14, 1941 ,in Albert Lea, the son of

Walter and Doris (Hanson) Carlsen. He was a Boone County resident since the early sixties when he moved from Minnesota. Lowell was employed as a truck driver and mechanic for Hopkins Trucking and Excavation until his retirement in 2000. He married Carol (Pierce) Carlsen on Nov. 28, 1960, in Mason City, Iowa. Lowell was an all around handyman and had many good friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons: Rick, Mike and Randy, all of Madrid; three sisters: Lorraine (Ray) Severson, Lucy (Duane) Hagen and Diane (John) Henline; three brothers: Larry (Karen), Howard (Mary) and Dale (Sandy) Carlsen; three sisters-in-law: Mabel Carlsen, Dixie Schulte and Sharon Weichman; three grandchildren: Nicole, Natashia and Adam; and numerous nieces, nephew and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin; parents-in-law: Ben and Christine Pierce; and one sister-in-law, Audrey Carlsen.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was in charge of arrangements.
