A New Richland teenager died Friday afternoon during a traffic accident near Owatonna.

Angela Ryan, 16, died after the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a telephone pole.

Robert Cassell, 19, of Weseca, driver of the vehicle Ryan was a passenger in, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 west of Owatonna when he passed some vehicles, pulled back into his lane and then lost control of the 1993 Honda Civic he was driving, said the Minnesota State Patrol.

Cassell was taken to a hospital in Owatonna. He was reported to be OK Saturday and was expected to be released from the hospital, said a spokesperson with the state patrol.

The incident occurred at 1:48 p.m. Cassell was wearing a seatbelt and Ryan was not, the state patrol said.

The incident is under investigation.
