U-12 girls wrap up season

The Albert Lea Elks U-12 B girls’ hockey team wrapped up the season with four tournaments, ending with a fourth-place finish in District 4.

The locals placed third at Hermans Hockeyfest in New Ulm. The first game Albert Lea faced Apple Valley and lost in double overtime. The second game was against Waseca with Albert Lea coming out on top 7-0. Albert Lea next faced Cambridge-Isanti and won decisively 8-5 outshooting their opponent 33-19.

The next tournament was at Mankato. This proved to be a tough weekend of competition from opposing teams, the flu bug and injuries. Albert Lea lost its first game 5-4 to Osseo-Maple Grove. Next Albert Lea faced Burnsville and came out on top 5-3.

The team next faced powerhouse South St. Paul in the consolation championship. The final score ended in favor of South St. Paul 4-2, with Albert Lea playing tough despite being sick.

Next Albert Lea played in the Austin Invitational with an opening-game win over Dodge County 11-0. Albert Lea won its next game against title 2-1 and put the team in the championship against Owatonna. The championship game was evenly matched with Owatonna scoring the only

goal on a power play in the first period.

Albert Lea finished the season at the district tournament seeded fourth with the first game against rival Owatonna. Unfortunately Albert Lea could not get into a good rhythm and lost 7-1. Next the team faced Luverne and come out on top 12-1 with the highlight Megan Pulley’s first goal of the season. The final game of the season was against Mankato. The team played hard, scoring the last two goals of the game but it wasn’t enough and lost 7-4.
