Carroll Nelson, 90, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Carroll James Nelson of the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23,
at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joel DeNeui and the Rev. Roger Davies will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Carroll died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center. He was 90 yrs old.
Carroll was born July 24, 1917, in Alden, Freeborn County, to Nels P. and Mabel (Larson) Nelson. He was a life long resident of Freeborn County, attended and graduated through the Alden School System. He played center on the Alden High School Football team.
He also sang in small groups and the school chorus. After his marriage to Margaret Rasmussen on Nov. 26, 1939, Carroll ran farms, the last one by Pickerel Lake close to Albert Lea. Carroll was a life long member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he belonged to the Ambassador Sunday School Class.
He had also been a church deacon and sang in the choir. He helped start the bus ministry and also drove the bus. Carroll helped with the children’s Sunday School classes and with the Awana program until he was close to 80 years old.
Carroll loved to visit his children and grandchildren, travel and camp before and after his retirement. He also loved to go fishing and could fish for hours and hours. He lived a full life, but his first priority was his love for his Lord and Savior.
Carroll is survived by his four children: Karen Yost and her husband
Marvin of Ponca City, Okla., Don Nelson and his wife Sonja of Litchfield, Minn., Luetta &uot;Lou&uot; Hinkle of Albert Lea, and Nancy Hoenisch and her husband John of Minnetonka, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildlren; one brother, Wesley Nelson and his wife Shirley of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Deloris Nelson
of Crosby, Minn., and Menominee, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews and cousins and special neighbors.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; sister, Zola Utzke; and brother, Manford Nelson.
