Editorial: Thank the Salvation Army this week

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, May 10, 2005

This week is designated Salvation Army week and we applaud the efforts of the organization to make Albert Lea a better community for its residents.

Throughout the week, the Tribune will highlight various programs and ministries offered through the Salvation Army as well as highlight the people who run the programs.

The organization, run locally by Majs. Bob and Margarett Miles, serves more than individuals; it also steps up when there is a community emergency.

Guiding the deeds of the Salvation Army is its mission statement: &uot;The Salvation Army, international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian movement. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination.&uot;

With its variety of programs, designed to help those in need &045; whether to provide food from its food shelf, provide children a safe and fun after school environment, affordable clothing through its Thrift Store, or a healing message during its Sunday worship time &045; the Salvation Army is all about love.

As the week progresses, stop in and say thank you to the Majors and their staff who make such a difference for people in this community and the surrounding area.
