Mavis Nordaas, 72, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Mavis S. Nordaas of Albert Lea will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Interment

will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.

Mavis died on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 72.

She was born on Dec. 28, 1932, in Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Selmer and Mabel (Larson) Thompson.

Mavis married DeWayne Thompson on Nov. 19, 1950. To this union one daughter, Dawn, was born. DeWayne and Mavis were later divorced. On Oct. 28, 1966, Mavis married Haakon Nordaas. Following their marriage they made their home in Albert Lea. Together they traveled the world, seeing many places and enjoying deep sea fishing.

She is survived by her daughter, Dawn and her husband Gary Pestorious of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Cole Pestorious and his special friend Katie Demmer, and Kelsha Pestorious and her fiance Joe Ackerman; sister, Helen and her husband Robert Edwin of Albert Lea; two brothers: Ernest Thompson of Emmons, and Siram Thompson and his wife Beulah of Silver Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law, Betty Thompson of Glenville; three step-children: Linda, Robert, and Perry; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Haakon, in 1995;

brother, Lauritz; and sister-in-law,

Dorothy Thompson.

Mavis’s life centered around her family. She enjoyed sharing and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by those that loved her.
