Lillian Horan, 86, of Canton, S.D.

Lillian Mae &8220;Lil&8221; Horan, age 86, of Canton, S.D., formerly of Wells, died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at the Canton Good Samaritan Center in Canton, S.D.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, with the Rev. Meg Sander officiating. Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church from 8:30 a.m. until the hour of services on Monday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Lillian Mae Horan was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Judson, N.D., the daughter of Paul and Teakla (Yeager) Brandt. She had 5 sisters: Ester, Myrtle, Rose, Hazel and Violet and 3 brothers: Julius, Henry and Robert.

Lillian moved to Wells, in July of 1936. In the 1940s she worked for Paul and Fern Morgan in their Hamburger Shop and later in 1946, she bought the Hamburger Shop from them and ran the business herself.

In Nov. 1949, she married James M. Horan of Wells. They were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. From the 1950s through 1970s she helped manage their Red Owl grocery store in Wells. In later years, she also worked at the Hanson Drug Store in Wells. In 1996, she moved to Canton, S.D. with her son.

She is survived by her children: Cheryl Horan of Minneapolis, Michael and his wife Beth Horan of Canton, S.D.; two granddaughters: Shelby Horan of Canton, S.D. and Jennifer Horan of Minneapolis;

one sister: Violet Heid of Alexandria, Minn., along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James in 1976, 4 sisters: Ester Myrtle, Rose and Hazel, and three brothers: Julius, Henry and Robert Brandt.
