Albert Arp, 97, of Albert Lea

Funeral services for Albert Harry Arp of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Albert Lea. Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lakewood Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Groups.

Mr. Arp died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He was 97 years of age.

Albert was born Sept. 18, 1908, in Lincoln County, S.D., the son of Ferdinand and Johanna (Jahr) Arp. He moved to rural Albert Lea at the age of two. He attended country school districts #42 and #43. Albert was engaged in farming all of his life working for Otto Wilhelm, Nora Klukow, Wallace and Agnes Roberts and Ray and Millie Roberts’s families.

Albert served as Staff Sgt. in the Army Air Corps during WW2 and was a member of the American Legion Club. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing trips with his buddies, travels (especially Las Vegas) and had a keen eye for finding arrowheads out in the fields. He was a very hard worker and was dedicated to the families he worked for.

Albert is survived by two nieces; Mavis (Tom) Simonson, of Springville, Calif., Alice Bergmann, of Fulda, Minn. and their children. Also surviving is one sister in law; Dorothy Arp, of Waseca, Minn., Millie Roberts and her family, of Albert Lea, and many other extended family and friends.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Harry, brothers William and Adolph, sisters Irma, Beatrice, Alice and one sister in infancy.
