ALBERT LEA &045;&160;Albert Lea Community Education gave area kids a chance to have fun and get a little exercise over the holidays Friday with the first-ever dodgeball tournament and climbing competition.

More than 100 kids took part in the events with climbers ranging in age from 5 to 14 years old while 18 different teams signed up for the dodgeball competition.

&8220;This was just a chance to give the kids something to do that was competitive and fun at the same time,&8221; said Chris Harveaux, who led the climbing events in the Rock Gym.

Climbing consisted of two speed climbs and a pair of traverses, while the dodgeball tournament was divided into a pair of brackets filled with teams like the Dodging Dragons, Purple Platypuses and the Cobras.

Volunteers helped make sure the events ran smooth as the day was aided by help from the YMCA of Albert Lea.
