Elmer Newman, 86, of Alden

Elmer C. Newman, age 86, of Alden died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea. He had been a resident of Thorne Crest South for four years and at the Good Samaritan Center in rural Albert Lea for the past two years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden, with the Rev. Peter Soli officiating.

Visitation will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, and one hour prior to services at church on Tuesday.

Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery in Alden.

Elmer was born July 26, 1919, the son of Nels and Anna (Svendsen) Newman.

He attended Buckeye Country School in rural Alden.

He married Dorothy Jacobs on April 9, 1945.

He farmed most of his life north of Alden.

He later worked for Alden Oil Company and Wedge Nursery until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.

He was a 60 year member of the Alden American Legion Post 404.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed deer hunting, golf and bowling league and had an ability to fix anything mechanical.

Elmer is survived by his wife Dorothy Newman of the Good Samaritan Center in rural Albert Lea;

Sons Gary and wife Eunice Newman of Alden, Steve and wife Cheryl Newman of Alden and daughter Sharon and husband Daryl Mattson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Kevin and Deb and their children Kaitlyn and Matt of North Mankato, Kory and Amy and Alexa of Alden, Kristi and Casey Soost and their children Autumn, Dugan and Brooke of rural Alden, Amy Newman of Alden,

Marci and Trent Wangen and Mason of Hartland, Stephanie Newman of Alden, Kaylee Newman of Alden, Natalie Sorensen of Albert Lea, Tiffany and fianc Nick of rural Freeborn, Brett Mattson of Rochester; brothers Hans Newman of Thief River Falls and Walter Newman of Good Samaritan Center; sisters-in-law: Olive of Anaheim, Calif. and Leona of rural Alden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Einer, Jens, Albert and Bill and sisters Mabel and Marie.
