Emil Nordby, 96, of Austin

Emil Christian Nordby, age 96, of Austin, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Austin Medical Center. He was born Feb. 17, 1910, to John and Thea (Stoa) Nordby in Moscow, Minn. Emil grew up in Moscow Township where he attended country school. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving for four years during World War II. After the war, he worked for Martin Bustad & Son doing road construction.
He married Amy Lillian Iverson on March 26, 1949, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Amy passed away on Sept. 17, 1999. A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 and Moscow Lutheran Church, Emil enjoyed fixing things and spending time outside. He lived most recently at The Cedars of Austin.
Survivors include a son, Richard James (Rosemary) Nordby of Wabasha; daughter, Linda (Allan) Danielson of Hastings; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Bertha Hanson of Albert Lea and Palma Ulland of LaPorte; brother, Marvin Brekke of Albert Lea; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy in 1999; sisters, Sylvia Gilbertson and Ruth Arnetveit; brothers, Adolph Nordby, John Nordby and Erling Brekke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. LaDonna Ekern officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
Memorials are preferred to Moscow Lutheran Church.
