Albert Lea shows well on its home track

The Albert Lea girls’ track team took third at a Big Nine triangular it hosted Tuesday. The Tigers finished with 46 points but beat out Faribault in the running events. However, the Falcons took second on the strength of their field effort with 62 points while Winona won with 77.

The Tigers were led by Anna Sigurdson who won the high jump competition and the victorious 4×100 relay team of Brittni Lair, Cara Thorn, Lacey Williamson and Liz Wur.

Annika Smed finished second in the 300 hurdles, Thorn and Wur were runner up in the 800 and 200, respectively, while Kendra Olchefske took second in the discus.

The 4×800 team of Whitney Wilson, Elyce Rehmke, Molly Sutton and Thorn also finished second.

Jenny Larson (100), Sarah Wenum (1,600), Alex Ciota (400), Sutton (800), Lair (200), Abby Randall (3,200) and Jessica Malepsy (shot put) all claimed third place finishes in their events.

Williamson (400), Whitney Walters(300 hurdles), Mallory King (3,200) and Amanda Johnson (shot put) claimed fourth place finishes.

The Tigers finished second to Winona in the junior varsity competition by 10 points, but Albert Lea did pick up eight first place showings.
