Love Cruikshank, Love Notes

Before I get on with this column I want to thank Mr. Elwood Guanella of Alden for crediting the Democrats for preventing the destruction of some of our most beautiful heritage in Alaska.

I suppose if you think many automobiles and expensive houses represent the greatness of a country it is difficult to appreciate the glory of that country’s environment.

It’s a great temptation, Democrat that I am, to let the credit for attempting to save Alaska go to the Democrats. Still fair is fair and I have a number of Republican friends for whom I have affection, respect and admiration.

Every one of them is just as concerned about the environment and as dedicated to its welfare as are Democrats.

It has not been a good week. I lost my checkbook and searched for it for three days. Until Maren Ring walked in, spotted it at once and restored it to me. I rarely deal in anything but checks. So I was wondering how I was going to eat.

It’s spring and true to the convictions of my late mother I am doing my feeble best to clean house. It saddens me that any attempt to clean house results not in that shiny, neatness so eagerly sought. No. The house &045; as far as I can see if anything looks worse.

Weary and frustrated, I find myself tempted to lie flat on my back and read a whodunit.

And tonight the final catastrophe! As I turned on my computer to write this column the computer wouldn’t turn on.

It happened once before. It was explained to me that the computer had been disconnected. I tried to see, but a mechanic I’m not.

I only hope I don’t have to invest in another computer. If it should take me as long to learn to use a new one as it took me to learn to use this one, I’m a dead duck.

In closing I wish all you mothers out there happy Mother’s Day. I’m sure you deserve it.
