Eugene Otterson, 78, of Clarks Grove

Funeral services for Eugene A. Otterson, age 78, of Clarks Grove, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Hollandale Reformed Church. The Rev. Mark Volkers will officiate. Interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County veterans organizations. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Eugene died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.

Eugene Arnold Otterson was born May 27, 1927, to Omar E. and Sophie B. (Jacobson) Otterson in Albert Lea. He attended the Lerdal School. Eugene served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On Oct. 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ardene VerHey in Hollandale. Eugene had been a resident of Freeborn County all his life, the last 58 years living in Clarks Grove. He was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church, VFW, Clarks Grove Fire Department, and American Legion and a former member of the town council and the police department.

Survivors include his wife, Ardene of Clarks Grove; daughter, Ruth and her husband, Roger Klukow and their children, Lori Klukow and Shelly and her husband, Brian Bloch of Champlin, Minn.; daughter, Sandra Salter and her children, William and his wife, Bryar and Mary Kay Salter of Coon Rapids, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Kiley and Taylor Block; brothers: Raymond and his wife, Bernice Otterson of Clarks Grove, Lloyd and his wife, Charlene Otterson of Austin, Clifford and his wife, Margaret of Albert Lea, Rolf and his wife, Marlene Otterson of Cottage Grove, Dovain Otterson of Clarks Grove and Odean and his wife, Margie Otterson, also of Clarks Grove; sister, Theresa and her husband, Marlys Sorenson of Clarks Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Arie and Anna VerHey; son, Vernon Otterson; daughter, Marcia Otterson; and granddaughter, Jodi Klukow.
