Justin Nicolai Astrup, 88, Dagmar, Mont

Justin Nicolai Astrup was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Dagmar, Mont., to Peter Moller and Emma Marie (Halvorson) Astrup Sr.

The family settled in Williston, N.D., where Justin graduated from high school.

They then moved to rural Dilworth, Minn., and Justin attended one year of college at Concordia College, Moorhead.

Justin enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II.

While on furlough, he married Viola Beatrice Hite on Feb. 14, 1943, at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Glyndon, Minn.

Upon Justin’s discharge from the military, they returned to rural Dilworth and he helped on the family farm.

Justin and Beatrice then moved to rural Gardner, N.D. where they farmed for 50 years, raising grain, soybeans, and sugar beets.

It was on his beloved farm where Justin died on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at the age of 88.

Family was at his side along with Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Justin loved his Lord very much, participating in Bible study and the Prime Timers at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Beatrice, rural Gardner; a daughter, Sharon Astrup-Scott, and her husband, Robert Ackland, Albert Lea; a son, Paul, and his wife, Janet, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Philip Scott, and his fiancee, Jenni Haroldson, Peter Scott, and his wife, Ruth Ann, and Anna Astrup; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Camille Scott; and two brothers, Peter Astrup and his wife, Carol, Moorhead, and Herbert Astrup, Minneapolis.

Justin was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, the Rev. Edwin Astrup.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care of Justin.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead. Interment will be at Landstad Lutheran Cemetery in Perley.
