Lake Mills picks up first win of the season

LAKE MILLS – The Lake Mills softball team picked up its first win of the season downing St. Ansgar 6-4

Thursday.

The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 after one inning, but Lake Mills used a three-run fourth to take control and tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

St. Ansgar pulled within one run in the sixth scoring twice, but Lake Mills’ pitcher Megan Pederson struck out the side in the seventh to preserve the win.

&8220;We needed a win tonight,&8221; said Bulldog head coach Jim Boehmer. &8220;We always seem to start slow but we need to put together seven full innings.&8221;

Pederson finished the game with eight strike outs and three walks while surrendering six hits.

Laura Fjelstad and Brittney Byrnes led the Bulldogs with two hits each including three doubles between them.

Courtney Eidness, Melissa Brackey, Fjelstad and Whitney Thompson all had RBIs in the game for the Bulldogs.

Lake Mills (1-2) is back in action tonight when they travel to Garner.
