Officers from the Albert Lea Police Department arrested two 16-year-old boys for making bottle bombs Wednesday night.
The bottle bombs used plastic bottles, Drano and foil. These are commonly called Drano bombs. Police made the arrests at 10:02 p.m. on the south side of Albert Lea.
Someone heard a loud bang at about 10 p.m. and called the police, who went to investigate.
Officers found the remains of two exploded bottle bombs at a residence on Commercial Street and the materials to make nine more bottle bombs when they
investigated.
Police found the two boys in the area between Commercial Street and Oregon Street and found they had bomb-making materials. The kids were taken into custody and then released to their parents.
Police are requesting felony charges from the Freeborn County Attorney&8217;s Office.
Drano bombs sit a few minutes before they explode, a reaction of hydrogen gas. The explosion usually leaves Drano all over the place and can cause chemical burns, according to chemistry lessons. It is a dangerous reaction and, according to news reports, people have burned themselves setting the bombs or being attacked by them.
