The Fourth Annual Freeborn County Ag Open took place Aug. 11 at Green Lea Golf Course.

This year there were 112 golfers that took part in the event. The Freeborn County Ag Open is put on by Freeborn County Corn and Soybean Growers Association., Freeborn County Cattlemen’s Association, Freeborn County Pork Producers and Freeborn County ADA.

Proceeds from this tournament go towards ag scholarships in Freeborn County.

Each year Ag Star sponsors a 50-foot putting contest, this year the contest had its first winner.

Each player in the tournament gets a chance to qualify with a 25-foot putt and out of those who make it one name is drawn out of a hat for a chance at the 50-foot putt and $2,500.

This year Andy Vanhal, a farmer from the Geneva area, made the 50-foot putt for the grand prize.

&8220;I just smoked the putt, it hit the back of the cup and went in,&8221; Vanhal said of his winning effort. &8220;I thought it was going to skip over the hole as soon as I hit it.&8221;

Vanhal, who is still waiting to collect the money, said he is still not sure what he is going to do with the prize.
