Julia Harper, 98, Wells

Julia B. Harper, age 98, of Wells, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at her home in Wells. Memorial services will be held Friday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wells.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Art Keith will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Julia Bell Harper was born Nov. 23, 1907, the daughter of Ezra R. and Mary (Flowers) Crowell, in Iowa. Julia grew up in the Walnut Lake area and worked as a hired girl until her marriage to Floyd R. Harper, on Feb. 1, 1927. Julia was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Wells, having taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the women’s group, Rebecca Lodge, the Farm Bureau and Extension groups. Julia enjoyed crocheting, reading and watching the &8220;Twins’&8221; baseball games.

Julia is survived by her sister, Dorothy Redman of Wells; four children: Marie and her husband Milton Groskreutz of Wells, Harold and his wife Carol Harper of Faribault, Dorothy and her husband Stan De Freese of Richfield, and Helen and her husband John Herman of Wells; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
