The Albert Lea freshman football team is off to 2-1 start this season.

The Tigers dropped their first game to Winona 9-8 when the ball was snapped over the kicker&8217;s head on a punt attempt. However, the team has rebounded with two convincing victories over

Owatonna 39-12 and 30-22 against Faribault.

Success for the Tigers can be found in simplicity as the team runs just five or six plays.

&8220;We told the kids at the beginning of the season that we are going to learn just a handful of plays and run them well against the different defenses we would face,&8221; co-head coach Bill Webb said.

One of the team&8217;s biggest assets is speed at the skill positions with the freshman team having three of the five fastest players in the program.

The team also has lifting sessions each Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and gets individual instruction along with the varsity on Tuesdays.

The team consists of more than 30 players with five more games left to be played this season.

&8220;This is a good group of kids and it has a family atmosphere,&8221; Webb said. &8220;If this group stays together I think it could enjoy a lot of success by the time they are juniors and seniors.&8221;

The team is coached by Bill Webb and Jon Hansen.
