The funeral service for Bertha Helen Hanson of Albert Lea will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bertha died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home. She was 93 years old.

Bertha was born July 18, 1913, in Freeborn County to John S. and Thea (Stoa) Nordby. Bertha was baptized on Aug. 17, 1913. She was confirmed on June 19, 1928 at the Oakland Lutheran Church by the Rev. Charles Fritz. She graduated from Austin High School.

On Dec. 19, 1933, she was united in marriage to Harvey Raymond Hanson at the Mankato Lutheran Parsonage. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea since 1938.

Bertha was a homemaker. Bertha and Harvey lived near Hollandale for 39 years before moving to Albert Lea in 1979.

Bertha is survived by three sons and one daughter: Raymond (Norma Ann Van Wilgen) Hanson of Clarks Grove, Charles Hanson of Albert Lea, Harold (Maxine Heinzerling) Hanson of Clarks Grove, and Carol Ann (Jon) Johnson of Albert Lea; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; sister: Palma (Brekke) Ulland of LaPorte; brother: Marvin Brekke of Albert Lea; sister-in-law: Ruth Hanson of Billings, Mont.; and nieces and nephews.

Bertha is preceded in death by her parents John and Thea Nordby; husband Harvey in 1990; brothers, Bennett Herbert Nordby, who died at birth, twins, Gilbert and Harold Nordby, who died at birth, John T. Nordby, Emil Nordby, Erling Brekke and Adolph Nordby, who died in 1944 in World War II; sisters, twins Beatrice and Helen Nordby, who died at birth, and Ruth Arnetveit and Sylvia Gilbertson; Harvey&8217;s sisters and brother, Evelyn Hanson, Margaret Hanson and Lloyd Hanson; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
