Joseph Ferstl, 30, Mercer, Mo.

Joseph Richard Ferstl, age 30, of Mercer, Mo., died early Sunday morning, Oct. 22, 2006, in a single-car accident near Emmons.

Joe was born June 25, l976, in Mason City, Iowa, to Mike and Shirley Ferstl. He became the step-son of Bruce and Shirley Mogk in l980.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, Iowa, with the Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Burial will take place at the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, Iowa. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, Iowa.

Joe attended school in St. Ansgar, Northwood-Kensett, and Mercer, Mo., where he graduated in l994, Salutatorian of his class. After high school he enrolled in the University of Missouri Rolla (School of Mines) in Rolla, Mo. Joe graduated with a bachelor degree in Engineering.

Joe worked for Siemens Westinghouse of Houston, Texas, where he was the lead engineer of rebuilding and repairing turbine engines on generators in large power plants. His work took him throughout the country from Orlando, Fla., to Oregon. Just last year he managed a job in Korea.

He was well liked by all his customers and was requested by many to manage different projects. He was no different than most people as he complained about some of his work, but he loved his job dearly. His work was his first love.

When ever Joe was off work he could be found hunting, fishing, or just hanging out with his best friend Mark Meinecke. His favorite pastime was playing Texas hold &8216;em on the Internet or in a casino. He also loved sports on television, especially football and baseball.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Willam Ferstl; grandparents Maynard and Nora Mogk; and cousin Jennifer Mogk.

Joe is survived by his parents Bruce and Shirley Mogk of Alden; his father Mike and wife Ella Ferstl of Harriet, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law Jay and Cristy Ferstl of Lawson, Mo.; brother Mike Mogk of St. Joe, Mo.; brother Isaac and his wife Jennifer Mogk of Fort Worth, Texas; grandparents Vic and Daisy Bach of Minnesota Lake; grandmother Eva Ferstl of Arkansas; six nieces and nephews, Jeffery and Jessica Ferstl of Lawson, Mo.; Garrick, Damon and Devin Mogk of Fort Worth, Texas, and Delaney Mogk of Rockford, Iowa, many cousins and aunts and uncles.
