Permit issued for renovation project

A full two-thirds of the September total for the city&8217;s building permits was issued for just one project, according to the latest report from the City of Albert Lea Inspection Department.

This permit with a listed valuation of $1,200,000 was issued to the Winkelman Bldg. corp. for the exterior remodeling of the former Freeborn National Bank building at 201 S. Broadway Ave.

The city&8217;s report shows 35 building permits with a valuation of $1,796,710 were issued during September. This brings the total valuation for permits issued so far this year to $15,646,258.

At the end of September 2005, the city&8217;s report shows a total valuation for building permits as being $25,385,815.

A permit with a valuation of $60,000 was issued to the Albert Lea Port Authority, 2530 Y.H. Hanson Ave. for office remodeling.

Another permit with a valuation of $30,000 was issued for the renovation of the former Dairy Queen building at 502 S. Broadway Ave. into new offices for the Albert Lea Tax Service.

During September permits for the construction of two new homes were also issued.

The Freeborn County Planning and Zoning Office issued 29 building permits with a listed valuation

of $384,415 in September. This increases the estimated total valuation for permits to $4,315,346 for the first nine months of the year.

A full dozen of the county-issued permits were for garage and/or home additions.
