Funeral services for Wanda Leona Vangen formerly of Ellendale, will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 22, at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Arnie Halbakken will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale.

Mrs. Vangen died Saturday afternoon at the New Richland Care Center where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Mrs. Vangen was 92 years of age.

Wanda was born March 1, 1914, in Berlin Township, Steele County, the daughter of Charles F. M. and Emila (Nelson) Utpadel. She attended Berlin Township schools and Ellendale High School. On Sept. 12, 1933, she was united in marriage to A. Carlyle Vangen at the LeSueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland.

Wanda was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale and was active in the Mission Circle, Ladies Aid and an active volunteer. She was a member of the Neighborhood birthday club, and active 4-H leader and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Wanda never missed her grandchildren&8217;s events and her door was always open to everyone. She enjoyed decorating, gardening, cooking, sewing and going on the occasional trip with her husband and family. She also loved dancing and fishing.

Wanda is survived by her daughter Joanne and husband Ron Christensen of Aitkin; grandchildren Pam (Richard) Cook, Scott (Cheri) Christensen, Steve (Rhonda) Christensen, Rhonda (Derike) Shelton, Jeff (Robin) Christensen, Stewart (Chip) and Michelle Vangen, Mitchell Vangen, Kara Vangen, Shaun (John) Steffen, Drew (Melissa) Vangen and Tira Vangen. There are 21 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters. There is one sister-in-law Marian Utpadel, three daughters-in-law Geraldine Vangen, Sandra Vangen and Kathleen Glynn.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband A. Carlyle, sons Odean, Kenny and one son in infancy, sisters Cora Pettit, Eva Langlie, Martha Anderson, brothers Carl and George Utpadel.
