It wasn&8217;t a win but it was almost as big as the Albert Lea girls&8217; hockey team tied the undefeated Faribault Falcons 2-2 Thursday.
&8220;The girls kept coming and the effort was definitely there tonight,&8221; Tiger head coach Steve Falk said. &8220;We are glad to get out of here with a point, and this team is still young but it is growing up.&8221;
Jenna Christensen scored both of the Tigers&8217; goals with all the offense for both teams coming in the first period. Christensen&8217;s first tally came just 50 seconds into the game on a shorthanded effort unassisted.
The Falcons would respond with two straight goals to take the lead. However, Christensen would even things up late in the first with a power play goal with assists going to Amy Gackstetter and Madi Passingham.
Neither team would score again in a tight game which saw the Falcons get just two more shots on goal than A.L. on the night, 29-27.
The Tigers had a 5-on-3 in overtime, but it ended up being a brief advantage as they were whistled for interference ending that chance.
Kendra Olchefske for A.L. and was in net and came up big stopping 27 pucks including a point blank shot in the overtime session.
&8220;Kendra gave us the best effort this year in goal and all the girls competed real hard,&8221; Falk said. &8220;Defensively, Katie Nelson and Abby Leach played well and we were able to keep their scorers to the outside.&8221;
Albert Lea is now 3-3-1 on the season with a trip to Owatonna coming up Tuesday.
