ST. CLOUD &8212; The Albert Lea wrestling team got its rematch with No. 2 Hastings at the St. Cloud Tech Tournament, but that is one of the few things that went right for the fifth-ranked Tigers.

Albert Lea breezed to into the finals beating St. Cloud Apollo (63-9) and Cambridge-Isanti (41-18) before Hastings won the first seven matches in the finals and went on to down the Tigers 34-18 to take the title.

It was the second time the Raiders downed the Tigers in less than a month after Hastings was a victorious 36-21 at The Clash V.

&8220;We wrestled well in the first two duals, but the last couple of times we have had a big match we seem to have trouble getting up for it,&8221; Tiger head coach Larry Goodnature said.

Hastings came out determined but it by no means blew the Tigers away winning the first five matches by three points or less.

No. 10 Zach Rohr started the dual with an upset of top-ranked Cody Hansen 4-2 at 103 and 10th-ranked Tyler Rohr got past the Tigers&8217; Tim Aldrich 4-2 at 112.

In a battle of two ranked wrestlers at 119, it was fourth-ranked Luke Vaith who came out on top of a 6-3 decision over No. 10 Logan Kortan.

Both

No. 4 Eric Johnson and Isaac Johnson had one-point matches at 125 and 130, respectively, for the Tigers but neither could get the win in the closing seconds. Eric battled No. 3 Trey Bertram coming up on the short end of a 5-4 decision while Isaac gave Adam Siebenaler all he could handle before falling 6-5.

Alex Zeien earned a major decision over Brandon Mellang for Hastings 12-4 at 135 and second-ranked John Vaith held off Albert Lea&8217;s Zach McGinnis 4-1 at 140.

Second-ranked Beau Hansen would finally get the Tigers on the board coming from behind to record a pin of No. 3 Adam Peterson in 4:17.

The Raiders second-ranked Brandon Eichmann got by Logan Hansen 5-3 at 152 in overtime.

&8220;Logan had that match won and the referee called him for stalling the final second,&8221; Goodnature said.

A.L.&8217;s top-ranked Matt Morris downed Mitch Shemon 10-4 at 160. No. 3 Taylor Ignaszewski took down No. 3 (at 160) Bryce Mikel 6-2 at 171.

No. 8 Adam Yates beat Albert Lea&8217;s Tim Frazier 7-3 at 189 and Judd Connell pinned the Tigers&8217; Jordan Holland at 215. Ethan Reed would end the dual with a pin for Albert Lea taking care of P.J.

Mike in 1:28.

Kortan won the lone match between ranked wrestlers in the Cambridge-Isanti dual taking care of No. 8 Chad Larsen 11-2. Against St. Cloud Apollo, the Tigers lost just one match with the other points coming on a forfeit. Mellang took No. 7 Justin Pulliam down to the wire at 135 before coming up just short 8-7.

The Tigers schedule doesn&8217;t get any easier with a trip to No. 8 Owatonna Thursday. A Big Nine title and a preview of a likely section battle will be on the line. The Tigers dominated last year&8217;s matchup when the two teams met with the Huskies holding the No. 1 ranking in the state while the Tigers were No. 2.
