Neil Rasmusson, 88, Emmons

Funeral services for Neil S. Rasmusson, age 88, of Emmons will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Emmons Lutheran Church. The Rev. Julie Fiske will officiate. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Emmons American Legion members. Neil died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home.

Neil Sanford Rasmusson was born Feb. 2, 1918, to Nels H. and Sophie (Trytten) Rasmusson in Emmons. He was confirmed at the Emmons Lutheran Church in 1933. Neil was a lifelong resident of Emmons, graduating from Emmons High School in 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. Neil had worked at Knutson & Olien Implement and Dairyland Power and, for a short time, building power plants in Greenland. On May 25, 1958, he was united in marriage to Alice (Jensen) Wadding at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Neil became the Postmaster in Emmons in 1954 and later a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church, the Emmons American Legion, and NAARF. Neil also belonged to the Emmons Rod & Gun Club and was an avid outdoorsman.

He enjoyed playing golf, collecting coins & stamps, and going to his children and grandchildren&8217;s sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Alice of Emmons; daughter, Annette and husband, Jim Thompson of Owatonna; son, Nathan Rasmusson of Albert Lea; step children: Tom Wadding of Las Vegas, Nev., Den and his wife, Roxy Wadding of Emmons, Rosanne and her husband, David Baggett of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Dale and his wife, Becky Wadding of La Crescent, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Kerjil and her husband, Steve Yocom of Emmons; and many nieces and nephews.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Constance and Kathryn; and brother, Robert.
