Ralph Obermeyer, 93, Kiester

Ralph Obermeyer, age 93, of Kiester, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at the Shepherd&8217;s Inn in Wells. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Ronald Obermeyer was born on Aug. 14, 1913, in Kiester, the son of George and Mathilda &8220;Tillie&8221; Obermeyer. He graduated from Kiester High School in 1933, the first ever-graduating class from Kiester. He worked for Central Iowa Telephone Company until 940 when he enlisted in the Army. During World War II he served in the 109th Engineer Company and was part of the 34th &8220;Red Bull&8221; division. In 1945 he was honorably discharged at the rank of Technical Sergeant.

On May 27, 1946 he married Anita Walker of Alden. He owned and operated Kee Kleaners from 1951 to 1973 in Kiester, and then he worked for Kiester School form 1974 to &8220;retirement&8221; although he kept working part-time at the school and for Dale Wolfe until he was well into his eighties. Ralph enjoyed reading, music, photography, and especially his friends. He was a member of the Kiester American Legion Post for over 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1972, one brother, Earle, and one sister, Marie.

Survivors include his daughter Claudia and her husband Bob Solotaroff, granddaughter Joanna Solotaroff, all of Minneapolis, one nephew Peter Obermeyer of Edina, and many, many friends.
