INVER GROVE HEIGHTS &8212; Albert Lea&8217;s Matt Van Fossen led the boys&8217; swim team during the first day of its Section 1A Swimming and Diving Meet Thursday.

Van Fossen, a junior, had the fourth fastest qualifying time in the 100 butterfly with a 56.68 which is under the state cutoff time in the event.

He just missed the finals in the 200 individual medley placing ninth, but he has the top consolation final time of 2:10.47 which was also under the state cutoff time.

Chris Dorman was the Tigers other individual finalist finishing the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.72 to place seventh in the event.

Albert Lea&8217;s 200 medley relay team also qualified for the finals with a time of 1:48.33.

The finals took place Saturday with the top four finishers automatically advancing to state with any other swimmer finishing below the state cuttoff time in their event advancing as well.
