LeRoy Behr, 86, Conger

Funeral services for LeRoy John Behr of Conger will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Concordia Pickerel Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Behr died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 86 years of age.

LeRoy was born on Oct. 25, 1920, in Pickerel Lake Township to Christ and Christine (Schmidt) Behr. He attended school at District 99. He was married to Lorene Marie Heine on Oct. 24, 1943, at Pickerel Lake Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. H. H. Dohmeier. They farmed in rural Conger until 1950 when they purchased Bothum&8217;s Grocery in Conger and renamed it Behr&8217;s Store. They operated Behr&8217;s Store until 1970 when the building was converted to the Conger branch of the U.S. Post Office. LeRoy then was employed by Universal Cooperatives in Albert Lea until his retirement in 1985.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Lorene, and five daughters: LeAnn (Roger) Knutson of Albert Lea, Susan (Jerry) Clapsaddle of Mound, Judy (Mike) Nelson of Brainerd, Debra of Shoreview and Lori (Paul) Williamson of Brainerd. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Amy (Johnathan) Zabel of Eagan, Jeffery Knutson of Mankato, Brady (Tricia) Clapsaddle of Littleton, Colo., Wendy (Tom) Pratte of Littleton, Colo., Tiffany Kruger of Waconia, Chad (Michelle) Nelson of Braham, and Rhett and Alex Williamson of Brainerd. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Jacob and Megan Zabel, Jack Clapsaddle and Sophia Pratte. Other survivors are sisters: Leona Behr and Viola Johnson of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Behr of Conger, Juliann (Ray) Riemer of Albert Lea, Marie Nelson of St Petersburg, Fla., Kenneth (Sandra) Heine of Conger, Gerald (Lois) Heine of Conger, Lois (John) Mortenson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Shirley (Larry) Petersen of St Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Orville and Kenneth Behr; and one sister, Lois Christianson.

LeRoy was an active member of the Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church serving as an usher and Church Council member. His other activities included mayor of Conger, Conger city councilman, and Conger city clerk and served on the Conger Fire Department. He was a very strong community member. LeRoy also enjoyed playing softball and hunting in his younger years and bowling and golfing later in life.

LeRoy will be missed by his loving family and many friends.
